Have mold and mildew taken their toll on the masonry, brick, wood, or concrete surfaces on or around your home or business, leaving them stained and streaked? Martin Nichols Painting and Decorating, Inc. safely pressure washes decks and wood fences as well as other exterior home surfaces.

LASTING BEAUTY AND PROTECTION FOR YOUR HOME
WITH THE STROKE OF A BRUSH

Does pressure washing harm wood?
Used correctly, pressure washing is safe for virtually all wood surfaces.

Doesn’t pressure washing wood affect the wood grain?
Yes, when the correct pressure setting is used, washing will raise the wood grain slightly, which allows the wood fibers to release mold, mildew, fungus or dirt that may be embedded and will ensure that new stains and sealers adhere evenly to the wood surfaces.

Can’t I get the same results as a pressure washer by applying bleach to my deck and rinsing using my garden hose?
Although the immediate results may appear acceptable, common, household bleach will leave a residue on your deck that will act like a magnet for future staining. No matter how strong the water pressure from your garden hose, it is nowhere near the pressure provided by a professional pressure washing machine.

A Little Q & A

Our deck has turned gray and even looks black in some areas. What can we do?
Wood naturally grays as it ages, but a good power-washing can bring the wood back to life. Power-washing will also remove the black portions, which are usually a combination of graying and mildew. Sanding may be necessary to remove any splinters or to even out the surface of your deck. The last step would be to apply pigmented or clear water-repellent, to help protect your deck.
